Tryouts for Piedmont Basketball Foundation’s MVP teams for the Spring 2013 season have been held as shown below.  Results will be communicated to players and parents this week.

Not all teams will be holding tryouts.  If all registered players can be accomodated on a team, tryouts will not be held.  Check back here for further updates.

General Registration for the Piedmont Basketball Foundation’s Spring 2013 MVP teams is now closed.  Registration for 4th Grade Girls team, 8th Grade Girls team and 2nd/3rd Grade Girls Development Program is still available.  Please contact keith@piedmont-hoops.net to register.

No payment is required at this time.  When team rosters are finalized, payment for the costs of the 2013 program will be made, which is $350 per player for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade and $400 per player for 6th, 7th and 8th grades.  If a player’s uniform from prior years needs replacing, it can be purchased for our cost of $60.  An additional coaching fee may be added to a 3rd/4th/5th team’s cost if professional coaches are added to a team.  Pricing for the 2nd/3rd Grade Girls Development Program will be announced soon.

Other than paid coaches for the older grades and certain younger teams, PBBF is an entirely volunteer organization and your volunteer efforts will help keep the Foundation’s activities available to the kids.  Please visit the Volunteer page of this website to see the many ways in which you can contribute your talents, and then sign up for a role during registration.

This registration is for boys and girls in Grades 3 through 8 for teams competing in the MVP Flight leagues (exception for 2nd and 3rd Grade Girls which are being offered our MVP Development Program this year).   Please see below for more information about the MVP season.

Piedmont High School men’s varsity basketball coach Chris Lavdiotis and women’s varsity basketball coach Bryan Gardere announce the return of the Global Shot Doctor to Piedmont!

The men’s and women’s varsity basketball teams will conduct two shooting clinics with coach Duane Lewis, the Shot Doctor, and members of the varsity teams, on Sunday, October 28, 2012.

Clinic #1 will run from 12:00-3:00pm
Clinic #2 will run from 3:00-6:00pm

Each clinic will be held in the Piedmont High William “Binks” Rawlings Gymnasium, 800 Magnolia Avenue, Piedmont.

These clinics are open to boys and girls ages 7-18. The cost is $60 per clinic.  Checks are payable to “PHS Basketball”.

At these clinics, players will learn how to become better shooters.  We will work on shooting form, including balance and finish; repetition; shooting off the dribble; hand-eye coordination; proper Free Throw form and finish; and mental aspects of shooting.

This is the 11^th year that the Shot Doctor has helped East Bay basketball players improve their shooting skills.  The clinics have historically been extremely well-attended, so we encourage players to register early!

The men’s team had a closer win, 45-42, over Middletown High School. Their next game
is Saturday, against Arcata High in Humboldt County at 7:00pm.

The MVP leagues are competitive leagues and our program offers players with a strong interest in basketball an excellent opportunity to develop their fundamental basketball skills, and to learn the essential elements of offensive and defensive strategy and team play.

Our objective is to instill in all of our players a lifelong love of basketball, whether they continue with the game into middle school or high school or whether they decide to pursue other sports. We do not expect players to be committed exclusively to basketball, though attendance at practices and games is strongly encouraged as it is important to the overall quality of the experience for each member of the team.

Our coaches are members of our local basketball community and volunteer parents, all of whom typically have significant basketball experience either as former players or coaches–most at the high school level and some in college.  All have prior youth basketball coaching experience and are individually selected by the PBBF director of coaching.

We made exciting improvements to our program last year and once again our MVP program will include weekly, customized skill development sessions run by experienced Triple Threat Academy trainers or varsity level coaches. Our goal is to teach every young player essential, fundamental basketball skills, that will allow them to compete with confidence at the MVP level and to build a solid foundation for their future basketball development.

We continue to strive to offer a high quality basketball program to not only Piedmont players but also kids from nearby communities–on par with all the well-known competitive programs in the East Bay–at a significantly reduced cost. Our registration fee this year is $315—which covers gym rental fees, skill session trainers, and all MVP Flight league fees. Returning players may use their uniforms from last year or elect to purchase a new one. New players must purchase a uniform at a cost of $60.

Schedule: Tryouts will be held the weekend of February 4-5. and team rosters will be announced in mid- February. Practices will begin in mid-February and will usually consist of two 90 minute sessions per week. The MVP Spring League games begin in mid-March. There are 8 league games (plus one extra weekend of playoffs for the top four teams in each division) played each weekend through mid-May.

PBBF’s youngest MVP team ever – the 2011 3rd Grade Boys – and one of our two senior teams – the 8th Grade Girls – capped a phenomenal MVP season by winning their respective Championship Games Sunday.

The 3rd Grade Boys ventured into the toughest competition they’d ever imagined in their young hoops lives, and found they were completely up for it. And the 8th Girls, the last playoff qualifier and with only 6 players against a squad of 12, found a way to pull off what would have been a miracle weekend. Except it wasn’t a miracle. They were the hardest working, most resolute, and best TEAM. They completely earned the championship they deserved.

A record 15 PBBF teams competed in the Spring 2011 MVP season, challenging themselves against the best competition in the East Bay.

Congratulations to all the 2011 PBBF MVP players!

And thanks to the coaches and parents who supported them throughout, in the greatest Piedmont MVP season yet!

A special congratulations and thanks to Coach Don Eidam, who insisted that those youngest 3rd Graders were ready for MVP competition. And then also stepped in to fill a coaching need for the 8th Girls. That’s a record, too: coaching two PBBF MVP Championship teams in the same season. One that is not likely to be surpassed. Thank you, Don!
